Norway ‘to fully ban fossil fuel cars by 2025’

Norway will reportedly ban the sale of new fossil fuel cars by 2025.

Four of the major parties of the country have reached an agreement which includes new gasoline and diesel powered cars during the same period, according to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv.

The proposal is part of the country’s plans towards becoming one of the most ecologically progressive nations on the planet.

If it is approved, the country could be the first in the world to ban this kind of cars.

Around 24% of the new vehicles sold in Norway are powered by electricity.

Earlier this month Norway, which is Europe’s largest petroleum producer, stated offshore activities in its continental shelf generated 13.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions in 2015.

In May the nation awarded 10 new licences to energy companies for oil exploration in the Arctic.
