Germany ‘plans to slow green energy rollout’

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has reportedly negotiated a framework with ministers to control the rollout of renewables in the country.

The proposed reforms to the nation’s green energy law is expected to curb the costs of developing green power projects.

Reports claim after a meeting with the heads of Germany's 16 states, the government agreed to cap the expansion of onshore wind at 2.8GW per year – equivalent to 1,000 turbines.

In addition, a limit of 600MW is to be placed on solar capacity and installations smaller than 750KW will continue to receive support.

With these new measures, which need to be approved by the German Cabinet, the government reportedly plans to slow the growth in renewables, which accounted for around a third of Germany's electricity last year.
