Nottingham unveils UK’s ‘largest’ solar carport

A solar carport claimed to be the largest in the UK has been built in Nottingham.

The 88.5KW Ken Martin solar carport is owned by the city council and is expected to generate more than 79,000kWh of energy and reduce 41 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

It is also hoped to save the council around £10,000 a year on its energy bills.

It is the second project of its kind in Nottingham as a 67KW solar carport was installed last year.

Councillor Alan Clark, Nottingham City Council’s portfolio holder for energy and sustainability said: “The solar carport is an ingenious solution for maximising our assets, generating income and lowering the city’s carbon emissions. Car parks although serving a practical purpose and very necessary for our thousands of customers that visit our leisure centres are not usually seen as cutting edge. It’s really exciting that we have been able to extend the usefulness of this space and invest in a green energy supply for Nottingham.”

Located in a leisure centre, it was designed and installed by EvoEnergy.
