US and Israel sign new energy co-operation agreement

The US and Israel have signed a new agreement on energy co-operation.

US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and the Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources of Israel Yuval Steinitz put their signatures in an amendment to an existing deal between the two countries.

It will boost co-operation for exploration, production and distribution technologies for fossil and alternative fuels as well as research and development for natural gas, transmission, distribution and smart grid.

The agreement also sees the importance of developing advanced energy and water technologies to secure supply while protecting the environment and increasing efficiency within the two countries.

Mr Moniz said: “Today, our nations further solidified our ongoing co-operation. The US and Israel will continue to foster research and development, drive down the costs of clean energy technologies and encourage collaboration between our nations' top energy scientists."
