Inn with the savings

Inn with the savings

Premier Inn expects to save around £280,000 every year, thanks to solar energy.

Parent company Whitbread, which also owns Costa and Beefeater, said it has installed solar panels across 88 of the hotel sites in the UK.

Covering 12% of the estate, they are expected to generate more than 1.3 million kWh of clean energy annually - enough to power 300 homes.

Each installation will provide around 10% of its site’s energy, saving more than 6,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.

James Pitcher, Corporate Social Responsibility Director at Whitbread said: “Whitbread’s investment in solar PV forms part of our wider strategy to reduce carbon emissions across the business.

"It will support us in meeting our 2020 target of reducing carbon by 15%, relative to sales turnover and we’ll continue to develop our energy management strategy in line with the growth of our business.”
