€27.5m for biogas plant in Ukraine

Ukraine is receiving a €27.5 million (£20.9m) fund to build a biogas plant in Lviv.

The money comes from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) alongside other institutions such as The Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO).

The biogas combined heat and power plant is expected to generate up to 39,400MWh of electricity per year and save around 128,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The project will significantly improve the efficiency and environmental performance of Lvivvodokanal.

That’s the major municipal utility which operates a 1,000-kilometre network of water supply systems and water treatment facilities and provides services to 760,000 residential and industrial users.
