New trial for smarter energy use

New trial for smarter energy use

A new pilot programme to trial smarter energy use has been launched in Ireland.

Electric Ireland has partnered with Accenture to introduce Connected Home solutions to its customers.

The initiative will see 600 consumers trial the technology available for real-time, intelligent control of energy usage.

They will receive smart plugs and a monitor to measure electricity consumption in their homes.

Paul Stapleton, General Manager at Electric Ireland said: “With this latest technology, customers will be able to not only control the supply to certain appliances remotely but also monitor their usage through real time data ensuring convenient and efficient use of energy in the home."

The project is part of the company’s Smarter Living Panel programme, in which it has invested more than €1.5 million (£1.1m) to date.
