Gas and power prices could be volatile – Y report

The gas and power markets could see some volatility in prices, according to Inenco's Y report.

That's because temperatures, which have been revised below seasonal normal levels until mid-February, are the main drivers.

Rebecca Hermolle, Energy Trader said: “Going forward we could see some price volatility as Britain is set to experience its first real cold snap for this winter.”

Customers on fixed price contracts "could look at buying now before the market potentially expands with the cold weather", she added.

Customers on flexible contracts could use “this opportunity to optimise their position", Ms Hermolle added.

She went on: “If you have a high hedge you could possibly sell some volume back to the market.”
