Gas system short – DMR

The UK gas system is around 14mcm short today, according to npower’s daily market report.

Tim Carter from the Optimisation Desk said: “The short linepack forecast comes amid increased demand which has picked up from previous weeks as it moves into traditionally cooler Q1 temperatures.”

Demand is under 270mcm but “temperature forecasts suggest this could pick up in the next few days”, added Mr Carter.

Langeled flows are nominated at 60mcm and BBL (Balgzand Bacton Line) pipeline is flowing at 19mcm.

Mr Carter said: “We still have high exports through IUK adding nearly 30mcm to national demand. LNG nominations are around 30mcm, we have two tankers due to dock in the UK on the 8th and 15th of January.”

On the power system, margins are more than 11GW.

Wind is generating 3GW and is forecasted at 5GW.

The French and Dutch interconnectors are importing at near full capacity and CCGT is providing 42% of the stack.

Oil is currently trading at $37 (£24.79) per barrel.
