IKEA to install 1.14MW solar farm in Vegas

Swedish retailer IKEA plans to install a rooftop solar array with a capacity of 1.14MW at a new store in Las Vegas.

It will consist of more than 3,600 panels which will generate around 1.75 million kWh of electricity per year.

The project will also reduce more than 1,200 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The installation will begin this winter and is expected to be completed in spring next year.

Lars Petersson, President at IKEA said: "We are excited about furthering our sustainability commitment with solar panels on the future Las Vegas store. At IKEA, we have a mission to create a better everyday life for the many and IKEA Las Vegas can add to this goal with Nevada’s largest rooftop solar array."

The company has also ditched traditional light bulbs and has been offering only LEDs since September.
