US invests $210m in renewable fuels

The US is investing $210 million (£136.5m) to double the number of fuelling pumps that supply renewable fuels to motorists.

The Department of Agriculture is working with 21 states through the Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership (BIP) to develop the project and increase the options for customers.

Some of the states that will receive a share of the fund are Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas and Louisiana.

Nearly 5,000 pumps are expected to be added at more than 1,400 fueling stations.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said: "This major investment in renewable energy infrastructure will give Americans more options that not only will suit their pocketbooks but also will reduce our country's environmental impact and bolster our rural economy."
