288MW offshore wind farm opens in Germany

An offshore wind farm with a capacity of 288MW in the German North Sea has started generating power .

The Amrumbank West wind farm has 80 turbines which can produce enough electricity to power 300,000 households.

It will also help reduce more than 740,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions.

The site is owned by E.ON which invested €1 billion (£0.73bn) in the project.

Bernhard Reutersberg, E.ON Management Board member said: "We’ve commissioned two large offshore wind farms - Amrumbank West and Humber Gateway off the UK coast - in just one year. Both were completed on time and on budget, which underscores our ability to expand renewables."
