Swedish property firm wins €100m green EU loan

A Swedish property company has been granted a €100 million (£73.5m) loan to build two environmentally-friendly office buildings.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) said Fabege will use energy efficiency and renewable technologies during the construction of the near-zero-energy buildings.

The final energy usage of the buildings is expected to be below 50kWh per square metre.

They will be located in Solna, a former industrial area that is being transformed into a modern and sustainable district.

Jan Vapaavuori, EIB Vice President responsible for operations in Sweden, said: “We are glad to be partnering with Fabege to support the construction of near-zero-energy-buildings as this project will contribute to the increased use of renewable energies, reduction of energy consumption and sustainable urban development.”
