UK opens £10m vehicle emissions research hub

A £10 million Vehicle Emissions Research Centre (VERC) has officially been opened in the UK.

Engineering company Ricardo owns the facility, located in Shoreham-by-Sea, which aims to enable the development of clean and low carbon vehicles.

The VERC will test small passenger cars to light trucks of up to three tonnes including advanced technology hybrid electric vehicles (EVs) in different climate conditions.

It will also measure the state of charge of batteries used in EVs.

The hub was funded by the UK Government.

Dave Shemmans, CEO of Ricardo said: "The Vehicle Emissions Research Centre is a fantastic addition to Ricardo’s automotive research and testing capability enabling us to help our customers in all parts of the world in the development of cleaner and more fuel efficient vehicles."
