Japan starts work on ‘mega’ solar power plants

The construction of four “mega" solar power plants has started in Japan.

They include Higashimizome, which will have nearly 20,000 panels and Motoyama, which will comprise of nearly 70,000 panels. Around 16,000 panels will be installed at the Shiraiwa plant while the Ajisu Mega project will have nearly 17,000.

The projects will have a total capacity of 25MW - enough to power more than 7,000 homes.

Financial services firm ORIX Corporation announced work has begun on the projects in the Yamaguchi Prefecture.

They are expected to be in operation early next year.
