Romania gets £4.5m for wastewater services

Romania has received funding worth RON 28.6million (£4.5m) to boost its water and wastewater services.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing the loan to regional water supplier SC Apa Canal Ilfov SA.

Under a two-year plan, the company will expand and modernise its water and wastewater network, providing improved services to 60,000 people in eight towns. That's around 30% of the total population of Ilfov County.

James Hyslop, EBRD Director for Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure, said: “Our investment will help Apa Canal Ilfov improve services, reach more people in its area, reduce water losses and increase efficiency while complying with EU water and wastewater directives.”
