Man fined £4,800 for waste crimes in Stockton

A man has been ordered to pay £4,800 for waste crimes in Stockton-on-Tees.

Glenn Walsh, who owns a recycle plastic site in the region, admitted to storing thousands of litres of hazardous waste illegally and failing to contain the waste.

It follows an inspection of the site by Environment Agency officers who saw a large number of square drums which are used in industry to transport liquid.

They estimated between 30,000 to 40,000 litres of mineral oil, edible oil and solvents were at the site.

Mr Walsh has also been ordered to pay the costs of the court which is more than £6,000.

Environment Agency team leader Tristan Drought said: "We take waste crime extremely seriously. Our permits are in place to protect people and the environment and the illegal storage of hazardous waste can have potentially devastating consequences."
