Hillary Clinton bets on renewables if she wins US presidency

Senator Hillary Clinton aims to power every US home with renewable energy if she wins the presidency.

She plans to achieve the goal within 10 years of taking the office.

Under her 'Vision for Renewable Power', she also aims to install 140GW of solar energy by the end of the decade to power around 25 million homes.

It states: "Two bold national goals that she will set as president to combat climate change, create jobs, protect the health of American families and communities and make the United States the world’s clean energy superpower."

To achieve the targets Ms Clinton plans to launch a 'Clean Energy Challenge' programme in partnership with states, cities and rural communities that want to lead on green energy.

The scheme will include areas such as climate action competition, transforming the grid and boosting renewables in rural areas of the country.

Another presidential candidate Jeb Bush said he would cut subsidies for both fossil fuels and renewable energy if he was elected in 2016.
