Gas system balanced – DMR

Gas system balanced – DMR

The gas system has opened balanced, according to npower’s daily market report.

Demand continues to be above normal seasonal levels.

Gemma Bruce from npower’s optimisation desk said this is supported by “below average temperatures and healthy exports to the continent via the IUK  [Interconnector] pipeline”.

Storage injection is nominated at just 24mcm. Rough is nominated at 21mcm, which is up from 10mcm yesterday.

Gas-fired generation continues to dominate the power stack, currently contributing 36%.

Wind forecast is lower at 2.7GW and is expected to remain at this level until tomorrow. However solar forecast is relatively healthy at 4.1GW.

Ms Bruce added: “The French and Dutch interconnectors continue to import at full capacity to the UK contributing to the reasonably healthy peak margin of 12.6GW.”

Brent oil prices have fallen again this morning to $52 a barrel (£33/Bbl). On the currency side the pound has recovered some of its losses against the euro and is now worth €1.4.
