US military base to get 46MW solar plant

US military base to get 46MW solar plant

A 46MW solar array will be built at a military base in Albany.

Energy company Georgia Power has been given the green light to develop the project at the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Albany.

The solar facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

The company said is currently working on a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of the Navy (DON) to finalise project details.

Iit claims it is working on four other solar projects in military bases in the US and expects to install more than 160MW by the end of next year.

It added: "As with the company's other four military projects, the facility will be brought online at or below Georgia Power's avoided cost - the amount projected it would cost the company to generate comparable energy from other sources."
