Vestas wins 66MW turbine order in Scotland

Vestas wins 66MW turbine order in Scotland

Danish manufacturer Vestas has won an order to supply its turbines for an onshore wind project in Scotland.

It will install and commission the turbines which will have a capacity of 3MW and start delivering them in the second quarter of 2016.

The Galawhistle wind farm is expected to generate 66MW and will be located between East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire.

It is estimated to be completed in early 2017.

Klaus Steen Mortensen, Northern Europe President at Vestas  said: "Despite regulatory uncertainty, this order underlines our engagement and commitment in the UK market, where customers see the value of deploying cost-competitive, carbon-free onshore wind."

Last week the UK Government announced it would close the Renewables Obligation (RO) for onshore wind projects across the country from April 2016.

The Scottish Government is planning on hosting an emergency onshore wind summit in early July.
