Wind power attracted $100bn in 2014

Wind power attracted $100bn in 2014

Wind energy attracted $100 billion (£63bn) worth of investment last year.

That’s according to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), which also stated wind power has become one of the fastest growing sectors in the world.

The news comes as it celebrates Global Wind Day today.

Companies are turning to the renewable source to power their businesses due to its clean, reliable and cheap prices, according to the GWEC.

It claims onshore wind power is now cheaper than conventional energy sources in an expanding number of markets worldwide.

Steve Sawyer, Secretary General of the GWEC said: "Climate change is happening faster than expected but so is the transition to renewable energy. As businesses become increasingly aware of the progress in technology and falling costs we are seeing a rapid change in investment patterns."
