Wales and Vattenfall join forces for green energy

Wales and Vattenfall join forces for green energy

An agreement to explore for new renewable areas in Wales has been signed.

Swedish energy company Vattenfall will work with Natural Resource Wales (NRW), an organisation sponsored by the Welsh Government, on the project.

The aim is to find potential renewable energy areas in the Welsh Government's Woodland Estate.

The companies hope the project will contribute towards the nation's climate change targets as well as create benefits and opportunities.

Emyr Roberts, Chief Executive of NRW believes renewable energy could help Wales reach its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.

He added: “We already have a number of wind and hydro schemes on our land which, as well as producing energy, are benefiting nearby communities and the local economy.

"We look forward to working with Vattenfall to further explore the potential on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate as an example of the sustainable management of our natural resources.”
