Ofgem investigates five electricity generators

Ofgem has launched investigations into five electricity generators in the UK.

The regulator said it wants to see if they provided misleading or false information about planning consents for some units that took part in a capacity auction last December.

The UK Government’s Capacity Market allows operators to bid for contracts in annual auctions to offer back up power at times of peak demand.

The companies being investigated are GF Power Peaking Ltd, Berangere Ltd, Adret Ltd, Alkane Energy UK and Power Balancing Service Ltd.

National Grid runs the annual auctions to decide which generators and providers will be awarded the agreements in return for providing capacity.

All five companies were successful in National Grid’s first capacity auction.

“The opening of these investigations does not imply that we have made any findings about non-compliance,” Ofgem said.
