$13m to turn Jordan’s rubbish to renewables

$13m to turn Jordan’s rubbish to renewables

A $13 million (£8.2m) loan will help convert waste to generate electricity in Jordan.

The cash will be used to install a landfill gas (LFG) recovery system which is claimed to be the first of its kind in Jordan.

The technology will generate electricity for the national grid, replacing fossil fuel generation.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing the money to the city of Amman in order to help the environment.

EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti said: “This project provides a unique opportunity to promote sector reform.

“We aim to strengthen the operational, financial and environmental performance of municipal solid waste management in Amman.”
