District heating in Scottish energy plan

The Scottish Government has set a goal to reduce carbon from heating across the region.

Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing has announced a new project at the Association for Decentralised Energy’s annual district heating conference in Edinburgh. Mr Ewing explained that the aim of the process is to reduce carbon emissions and fuel poverty by using much more district heating. The development is expected to connect up 40,000 houses by 2020.

Mr Ewing said: “We want to make significant progress by 2020 towards our low carbon future to ensure Scotland is a leading low carbon investment destination. Our ambition is for 40,000 houses to be connected by 2020.”
