Leeds to get its first wind farm

The first wind farm in the Leeds metropolitan area should be working by the end of the year.

Swedish company Vattenfall has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to buy electricity from the five-turbine Hook Moor Wind Farm.

Work on the site is already underway and it is set to be fully operational by the end of 2015.

Jake Dunn from Vatenfall Origination said: “Vattenfall is committed to increasing its share of renewable generation through contracting long term PPAs in addition to developing its own wind farm assets.”

The Leeds deal is part of Vattenfall's growing wind portfolio in the UK. They are already building three wind farms in Scotland, Wales and off the Kent coast with a total capacity of more than 300MW.
