UK extends electric van funding scheme

A scheme that provides funding for electric vans has been extended, the government has confirmed.

The ultra-low emissions plug-in van grant, which was due to end at the end of March, offers buyers a 20% discount off the upfront cost worth up to £8,000.

The initiative - which is part of a wider £31 million scheme and also supports plug-in motorbikes - has been extended “to meet continued demand”, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles said.

Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said: “Ultra-low emission vans are cheaper to run and with a variety of models now eligible for the grant, there has never been a better time for business to take advantage and start saving money. The government is supporting UK companies that are leading the way on cleaner and greener transport.”

More than 1,250 vans have been supported since the launch of the scheme in 2012.
