UK fuel supplier buys major biodiesel facility

British independent fuel supplier Greenergy has bought what is claimed to be the largest biodiesel facility in the UK.

Located in northeast England, the facility in Seal Sands - sold by Harvest Energy - has an annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes a year.

Greenergy already operates a waste-based biodiesel plant (pictured) at Immingham located on the east coast of England.

The company said: “Production from the Immingham facility is insufficient to meet the company's growing biodiesel blending requirements in the UK and therefore these have been met partially through imported biodiesel.”

The Seal Sands plant, which produces biodiesel from waste oil, is expected to reduce reliance on imports.
