Saudis study Kingdom’s energy use

Saudi Arabia is mounting a study to find out how much energy is used by businesses and homes in the country.

Electricity demand in the oil-rich Kingdom has more than doubled since 2000 and is expected to shoot up by 8% per year for the next decade, according to consultancy DNV which is carrying out the 20-month study.

The country’s electricity authority ECRA and the Saudi Electric Company (SEC) are funding the $2.5 million (£1.7m) project to work out trends in the nation’s power use.
