The Scottish are “in demand” for energy

Scotland’s transferable skills in the energy sector could make them a global leader in the industry.

The country's skills and expertise come from its oil and gas production in one of the world's most demanding environments, the North Sea said experts.

At a Scottish Energy Landscape debate yesterday, David Rennie, from Scottish Development International said: “We have the skills the technology, the experience in the Nordic, if you can do it in the North Sea you can do it globally.

“Scottish skills are very much in demand.”

Industry figures show that the oil and gas sector alone generates around 200,000 jobs in Scotland with renewables providing just over 11,000 jobs.

Maggie McGinley, Senior Director of Energy and Clean Technologies at Scottish Enterprise added: “All that expertise, we have developed in oil and gas, how can we use that to support renewables but also how can we take that expertise internationally?"
