‘Frack off’ says New York

The Governor of New York has banned fracking.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration made the decision following a report into the potential risks around fracking by the State Department of Health. The report said no further fracking should take place.

The author of the report Dr. Howard Zucker said: “I have considered all of the data and find significant questions and risks to public health which as of yet are unanswered.

"I think it would be reckless to proceed in New York until more authoritative research is done. I asked myself, 'would I let my family live in a community with fracking?' The answer is no. I therefore cannot recommend anyone else's family to live in such a community either."

The report concludes it will be years before any significant scientific evidence is available to determine the level of risk fracking has on public health.
