ABB wins $30m Bangladesh power deal

ABB has won an order worth around $30 million (£18.6m) to help strengthen the electricity grid in Bangladesh.

It will build four new substations at Rangamati, Khagrachori, Bianbazar and Sunamganj for Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) as well as expand six others in a bid to boost power supplies.

Around 450,000 homes are to receive new electricity connections through the project, which will also cut carbon emissions by almost 2.5 million tons every year.

Claudio Facchin, Head of ABB’s Power Systems division said: “These substations will help increase transmission capacity and deliver more power to meet the growing demand for electricity and will also strengthen grid reliability.”

The project is part of the nation’s ongoing initiative aimed at upgrading generation, transmission and distribution systems to increase capacity, improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
