Government will be hoping 13 is a lucky number for some.
The list of which organisations can run energy audits for businesses under the mandatory ESOS scheme was unveiled by the Environment Agency on Friday without fanfare – and there are 13 approved registers of these Lead Assessors.
These registers will eventually hold details of auditors who can sign off an ESOS energy audit although several did not have any names on Friday.
Between 7-10,000 businesses in the UK have to get an energy audit under the ESOS or Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme.
If they don’t get an approved audit by 5 December 2015, firms could be slapped with fines of up to £90,000.
ESOS was brought in to keep the UK in line with EU rules to monitor and encourage organisations towards energy efficiency.
Every four years an energy audit must be done for firms which employ at least 250 members of staff or have an annual turnover in excess of €50 million and an annual balance sheet in excess of €43 million.
At the time of publication, ELN is carrying out a full tally of professionals who are officially deemed ESOS auditors.
It will publish these findings on Monday.
CORRECTION: This article originally incorrectly stated the compliance deadline was 31 December 2015. It is actually 5 December 2015.
