Cupid strikes! Fall in love with this heart-shaped solar farm

A beautiful and eye-catching heart-shaped solar farm is to be built on the Pacific island of New Caledonia.

The 2MW “Heart of New Caledonia”, which will be constructed by Conergy, is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 750 homes from next year.

Commissioned by local beverage company Froico SA, the project will include 7,888 solar panels and save around two million tonnes of carbon emissions over its 25-year lifetime.

The design is inspired by the “Coeur de Voh” or “Heart of Voh”, an area of nearby wild mangrove vegetation that has naturally taken the shape of a heart.

David McCallum, Managing Director of Conergy Australia said the ‘Coeur de Voh’ is an “important landmark” for the people of the island.

He added: “The ‘Heart of New Caledonia’ solar plant will be its man-made double, a landmark for clean power generation, showing that we can add new power plants wherever they’re needed and still keep a lid on carbon emissions.

"It will also probably be the world’s first beautiful PV plant and perhaps the first beautiful power station of any description, anywhere on the planet."
