The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $120,000 (£73,426) to help reduce air pollution in Puerto Rico.
Non-profit organisation Desarrollo Integral del Sur (DISUR) will use the cash to help identify sources of air pollution in the Tallaboa-Encarnacion community, located in an industrial area with a number of petrochemical businesses.
The ‘Pulmones Saludables, Ahora!’ project, which means ‘Healthy Lungs, Now!’ will conduct an environmental study to find the types of pollutants coming from local sources.
Judith A. Enck, EPA Regional Administrator said: “This grant will allow this community organisation to gather information about air quality so they can better understand and address air pollution issues in this community.”
