PepsiCo sprinkles recycling bins around USA

Soft drinks giant PepsiCo plans to put more recycling bins in petrol stations and supermarkets across the USA.

It is taking action after running a national survey which found 81% of Americans said they would recycle beverage containers at shops if proper bins were available.

The hope is to boost the rate of on-the-go and curbside recycling in the States can to 50% by 2018.

The country’s drinks container recycling rate is currently at 42% according to the American Beverage Association.

Al Carey, CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages said: "Most consumers want to recycle when they're away from home – there just aren't enough convenient places to do it. This is a huge opportunity that has been largely unaddressed until now. The easier we can make it to recycle, the more likely people are to recycle; and by giving consumers the added incentive of helping protect our watersheds, we can make an impact."

The project is part of a new five-year partnership called "Recycle for Nature".
