Co-op Energy offers ‘cheapest self-serve’ tariff

A new “self-serve” energy tariff that is expected to help bring down costs for customers has been launched by Co-operative Energy.

The power supplier claims the ‘Fair and Square’ tariff will be the cheapest in the UK based on the national average, costing consumers £989 every year.

Customers will however be required to take their own meter readings, need to have a dual fuel supply from Co-operative Energy, only pay by direct debit and will only be able to access their billing information online.

But if customers find they are no longer able to manage, they will be moved on to the standard tariff, the energy firm said.

Ramsay Dunning, Group General Manager at Co-operative Energy said: “Fair and Square is a ‘no frills’ energy product where we have stripped out the additional customer service elements to bring the cost down as low as we can. The energy itself is exactly the same but for a little more effort, customers can benefit from the cheapest tariff in the UK.”

The tariff is available to 10,000 customers - old and new - on a first-come-first-served basis.

Last week the supplier launched a ‘User Chooser’ scheme, giving customers the option to choose where their energy comes from.
