Transmission link operator for Duddon wind farm picked

The firm that will own and operate the transmission links to the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm in the UK has been named.

Ofgem picked Blue Transmission – made up of Macquarie Capital Group Limited, 3i BIFL Investments Limited and Frontier Power Limited - as the preferred bidder for the £296 million offshore links.

The wind farm, which generated its first power in January this year, consists of 108 turbines and has a total installed capacity of 389MW.

"Blue Transmission will own and operate the West Duddon Sands wind farm’s transmission system for the next 20 years", Ofgem said.

The project is a 50:50 joint venture between ScottishPower Renewables and DONG Energy.
