£160m onshore wind farm officially opened in UK

One of Scotland’s largest onshore wind farms has officially been opened near Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway.

ScottishPower Renewables' 136MW Harestanes wind farm, which includes 68 turbines, is expected to meet the annual electricity needs of more than 73,000 homes.

The company claims the project - worth £160 million - supported more than 150 jobs in the past two years.

Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing said: “Projects like this provide considerable benefits to reducing our carbon emissions and play an important part in helping Scotland reach its target of 100% of electricity demand generated from renewables as well as contributing to sustainable economic growth, investment and jobs."
