Bad knee holds out for bonus gas station on Day Six

Bad knee holds out for bonus gas station on Day Six

Geoff Curran writes...

Day six started with us saying goodbye to our lovely hosts, Jan and Barry who also very kindly donated to the cause (and if you haven’t, please go to our Justgiving page) and then it was off to see Cottam power station.

Now I knew it wouldn’t be too far as this was a slightly easier day (thankfully, right knee beginning to seize up) and within five miles of the start I would see a chimney and I thought, oh a power station before Cottam. Not on your Nellie, it was Cottam and even though I could see it for a long time, it took ages to get there.

The reason……it is massive. And if you like industrial architecture then this is definitely a power station for you. And it is a beast, about two and half times the output of the Staythorpe and Sutton Bridge stations we saw earlier on the ride.

I was then meant to head off to Bawtry where we are staying for the night but guess what, no more than four miles from Cottam, there was West Burton, another EDF Energy power station and pretty much the size of Cottam. So it was a day of bonuses and tomorrow is my biggest bonus…..I get to finish. Whilst the six days have been fantastic and a brilliant experience, it is time to get off the bike, I need a break!

Day seven and Drax, please roll on.

Geoff is cycling around the UK's power plants to raise money for Parkinson's UK.
