China makes ‘major shale gas discovery’

A “major” shale gas block has reportedly been found in China, with a maximum daily output of 105,000 cubic metres.

Located in the Guizhou Province in the southwestern part of the country, Dingye-2HF has been claimed to be the deepest discovery in China, located at a depth of 4,417 metres.

Reports claim the nation's Ministry of Land and Resources said the gas well is expected to have an average daily output of 43,000 cubic metres.

Shale gas production in China reportedly rose by more than five times to 200 million cubic metres last year.
