Marine energy park gets £15m boost

A marine energy park that aims to serve as a major hub for the UK’s offshore renewable sector has been awarded funding worth £14.94 million.

The cash is part of the Enterprise Zone Capital Grant Fund and is aimed to speed up the delivery of the Able Marine Energy Park (pictured) in North Lincolnshire, which was given the go-ahead last month.

The project was one of 12 to have won a slice of the £415 million injection announced by the Department for Communities and Local Government today.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: “This money for infrastructure will transform acres of enterprise zone land and build a stronger, more competitive business environment that will create up to 3000 jobs for hardworking people across the country.”

The £450 million marine energy park is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs by the end of the decade.
