India and Japan sign energy deal

India and Japan have reportedly signed agreements to work together in areas including the energy sector.

The deal was struck during Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s trip to India over the weekend to help the nation’s growing economy.

Japan will provide a loan to increase power generation in India and help the country boost energy efficiency in the telecommunication sector as part of the agreement.

Japan is also believed to be keen to boost nuclear technology exports.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is quoted as saying: “Our negotiations toward an agreement for cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy have gained momentum in the last few months.”

India and the UAE also recently agreed to work together to promote solar and wind energy in the two nations.
