SSE confirms £50 energy price cut for customers

SSE has confirmed an average price cut of 3.5% for gas and electricity, finally passing on the green tax savings to its customers.

A typical annual dual fuel householder will see their energy bill fall from £1,224 to £1,186 and will also receive a £12 government rebate as a result of the Warm Home Discount being paid for through general taxation.

SSE said that unlike some of its competitors, it would pass the savings on to all its customers including those on fixed tariffs.

Will Morris, Group Managing Director - Retail said: "We think it is totally unacceptable to penalise customers on fixed and capped price tariffs for their loyalty by excluding them from these cost savings. So we will be cutting their unit rates by the same amount - equating to a saving of £38 a year for a typical customer."

The price cut however will only come into effect on 24th March unlike ScottishPower’s 3.3% reduction which starts on 31st January.

SSE had previously announced an 8.2% increase in energy tariffs which kicked in on November 15th.
