India to help build biomass in Pakistan

India is sending over experts to advise its neighbour Pakistan on building new biomass plants.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Deputy Chief Minister for India’s Punjab state, offered the help to ministers in Pakistan’s own Punjab province.

Mr Badal lent his support to the province’s Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif during his visit to a 15 MW biomass plant in India.

In a statement, the Punjab state government said Mr Sharif was impressed by the efficiency of the plant in converting waste from farming into energy. He said such a plant would be of great use in his province, with its mainly agricultural economy.

In response Mr Badal volunteered to send a team of experts over to Pakistan to help set up similar plants.

He added: “This step will usher in a new era of unprecedented development in both the states across the border.”
