British Gas price hike kicks in

British Gas’s energy price hike comes into effect today. The supplier is raising its domestic gas prices by 8.4% and electricity prices by 10.4%.

It means the typical annual bill for a British Gas customer will increase by £107 or 9.2%, rising from £1,190 to £1,297.

A total of 7.8 million households will be hit with bigger bills, although the 1.7 million customers on fixed price contracts will be unaffected.

The firm became the second Big Six supplier to signal a price hike this winter, when it made the announcement five weeks ago.
