The carbon tax is “exporting emissions”

Britain’s carbon tax is “exporting emissions” to the rest of Europe according to Sara Vaughan, E.ON’s Director of Strategy and Regulation.

Speaking on the Building More panel at Energy Live 2013, Mrs Vaughan said the Carbon Price Floor is a “unilateral tax that has been introduced in the UK only and is disadvantaging industry.”

She added: “It’s having absolutely no impact at all in the reduction of carbon, because all it’s doing is exporting emissions to the rest of Europe. It’s a bad tax, it’s a wrong tax and we shouldn’t have it.”

A recent report by OECD found carbon taxes and trading systems were the most cost effective way of reducing emissions.
