Boiler engineers can now get vouchers to put towards training in installing renewable heating systems in households under a new scheme launched by the Government.
The £500,000 up for grabs is also backed by an apprenticeship initiative for people entering the industry to get relevant qualifications.
Vouchers are for up to £500 or 75% off the cost of a training course per person and come ahead of the domestic Renewable Heat Initiative launching next year. The voucher will cover training on solar thermal, air and ground source heat pumps and biomass.
A maximum of five vouchers per company – issued on a first come first served basis - will be available.
Energy Secretary Ed Davey presented the first voucher to Tom Hunisett (pictured) from TSG Building Services for a training course at Logic4training.
Mr Davey said: “This voucher scheme is aimed at the engineers who give us their expert advice on the heating system in our home - often over a cup of tea in the kitchen... In many instances not only will the engineers’ advice and work reduce the environmental impact of heating our homes but reduce people’s heating bills too.”
DECC said depending on the results of the scheme it could increase funding and support for the supply chain.
