Renewed calls for climate change action ahead of IPCC report

An environmental group has renewed calls to tackle climate change ahead of the release of the latest scientific report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

This week the IPCC will release the fifth of its six-yearly assessments of the scientific basis for climate change.

Friends of the Earth International claims the report will confirm “beyond all reasonable doubt” that climate change is real, is caused by man and poses an immediate threat to food production and security.

Sarah-Jayne Clifton, Friends of the Earth International Climate Justice and Energy Coordinator said: “The science is clear. We now need an urgent and dramatic transformation of the world’s dirty, corporate-controlled unsustainable energy system to stop climate devastation and avert worsening impacts on people and communities.”

Last week the Daily Mail reported it had obtained a leaked summary of the report and said the summary showed global warming over the last 15 years was a quarter of the IPCC's predictions, though some have criticised the article as misleading.
